About
CERA-KNOW is an independent technology consultancy dedicated to advancing ceramic membrane filtration.
With more than 20 years of experience, CERA-KNOW brings deep, end-to-end knowledge across the full lifecycle of ceramic membrane technologies.
CERA-KNOW acts as a trusted and independent partner to technology developers, manufacturers, end users, and investors, providing objective guidance focused on performance, scalability, and market readiness.
At its core, CERA-KNOW is built on a simple conviction: technologies do not fail because they lack innovation - they fail because the path from innovation to adoption, growth, and technology diffusion is not understood, and therefore never reaches majority acceptance and market standardization.
CERA-KNOW exists to close this gap.
The ceramic era is no longer a future promise. The ceramic ERA is NOW - through CERA-KNOW.

The Founder
Kay Gunther Gabriel is a pioneer in ceramic membrane technology with more than two decades of experience across innovation, industrial scale-up, and global market adoption.
He was responsible for the world’s first membrane bioreactor (MBR) using ceramic flat membranes, from design and construction to operation in 2005.
Kay is the inventor of multiple innovations in ceramic membrane manufacturing, module design, water and sewage filtration as well as membrane cleaning processes, resulting in 12 patented or patent-pending inventions.
He has held leading roles in R&D, product management, and business development, and brings deep international experience, including over 15 years in the Middle East, with five years based in Saudi Arabia, where he played a key role in establishing ceramic flat membrane technology in the drinking water market.
In 2016, he founded CERAFILTEC, building the company into a global market leader and successfully completing multiple investment rounds, including a EUR 30 million financing in 2022.
In 2023, he returned to Germany to establish CERAFILTEC’s R&D Science & Technology Center as CTO.
Today, Kay works through CERA-KNOW, an independent consultancy advising technology developers, manufacturers, end users, and investors.
